VAS Engineeing has world class SMT assembly lines. Our nimble size and well trained staff are prepared for anything –double-sided, flipchip, PoP, 0.3mm fine pitch IC’s, BGA’s, 01005 components.– You name it, we’ve seen it and we can handle it.

We test each resistor and capacitor before it is placed. This means that even though we sometimes cannot read any markings on these components, we can still verify that the correct value was placed where it should be. Then, each and every circuit board gets an Automated Optical Inspection (AOI). This means we read the markings of every single component placed on the board and verify that it’s the correct part and it’s in the correct orientation.

You will get a 100% correctly assembled circuit board or we will repair any issues found. It’s that simple.

Nearly every single circuit board we assemble has thru-hole components in addition to surface mount components. Whether it is a complex connector or an old school resistor, we have you covered.

We’ve outfitted our factory to handle these components. All thru-hole components are inserted (stuffed) by hand. In order to prevent errors we use a dedicated slide line with a verified setup to ensure that the correct part numbers are going to be put into the circuit board in the correct locations. Once a board has been populated it gets put onto our selective soldering machine, a tiny solder fountain attached to a big robot. The robot moves the fountain in place and the fountain solders the thru-hole components to the circuit board. So the resulting solder joint is reliable and repeatable.

All of our thru-hole boards get visually inspected for any defects. If anything is found that needs more attention, it will be repaired and reinspected.

Testing is key in our business because it provides data on faults, errors and areas for repair. While we are proud to offer a 97% quality pass rate on all our production batches, we do offer specific and custom functional and final testing procedures for all our customers.

Does your design have a chip that needs programming? We can take care of that. Depending on how many assemblies you would like, we can probably even automate the programming of your chips. This can be a huge time and cost savings. Even if you only have a few devices, we can still load your code for you. Once your code is loaded up, are there any tests you’d like us to perform? We can perform simple tests like checking for voltages or looking for your oscillators frequency, but most of our customers prefer to have us perform some type of functional test. Let’s work together to find the best solution for you, so that when your customer receives their product, we all have full confidence that it will work well for a long time.

Conformal coating is a service we provide with care and careful cooperation with our customers. Because every product is used and exposed to different environments, every project will require careful consideration by our team of engineers.

There’s a considerable amount of effort involved in coating a circuit board with this protective coating. Since everything is customized at VAS, we will also look at the types of conformal coating material to use, along with costs and procedural methods. Should other additional recommendations be required, we will do so after a detailed case review.

Yup, we do box builds. It’s pretty rare that a circuit board gets used as is. Oftentimes it needs to be put into a case and connected to some wires somehow. Many of VAS’s customers aren’t really interested in hiring and managing a bunch of interns to do this for them. They’d rather just focus on what they’re good at – designing a product.

Our engineers will work with you to create custom assembly instructions, test procedures and packaging requirements to ensure your specific needs are met. So if you need hardware added to your circuit board and put into a box, please let us know.
